The Finnish Institute’s Arts & Culture Programme promotes excellence in contemporary art and culture by fostering best practices, creating opportunities for cross-disciplinary and international collaboration and brokering contacts between Finnish, British and Irish arts professionals.
We support cultural exchange through residencies and expert visits, commissions, exhibitions and seminars. All our projects are produced in collaboration with local partners in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Finland.
In 2010-12 the programme focuses on changes in physical, social and imaginary spaces through activities and interventions within the fields of design, architecture, and new media cultures:
HEL/LO - Helsinki – London Design Camp 2010-2012 is the Finnish Institute’s programme for promoting Finnish design culture. Read about the annual commissions, debates, residencies, workshops, expert visits and export training programmes here.
The MEDIA SPACES project explores artist-led community and local media. The project explores the ways in which local people find voices through DIY participation and how DIY media practices enable creative uses of public spaces. Read more here. Since 2002, we have been actively initiating and supporting artist and curatorial residencies together with a number of Finnish, Irish and British partners. Read more about recent projects here.
